Autumn 1: Me and my community

Autumn 1, Week 6: w/c 16th October 2023

In Maths this week we have been learning all about the number 1 and have been practicing our counting skills. The children have used tweezers to carefully remove seeds from a pumpkin and have enjoyed counting these seeds into pots. We have also been sharing our shape knowledge and have been busy creating picture using shapes to print colored paint onto paper. We also explored wild animals and the things they eat, what makes their parts so special and where they live!

To support the development of our fine and gross motor skills we have been exploring ways of changing the shape and texture of play dough. On Wednesday we had a ‘dough disco’ where the children enjoyed following instructions and molding their play dough to the beat of a song. The children enjoyed squeezing the play dough between their fingers, pushing to create holes, and stretching and rolling to reshape the dough.

Our Makaton sign this week was ‘toilet’, see if your child can show you this sign over the weekend.

Our Star of the Week in Duckling class this week is Charlotte. Charlotte has been using her kind hands in the classroom and has been sharing loads with her friends in Duckling Class. Charlotte has loved singing in class this term and has really come a long way this term. We are proud of you Charlotte, well done!!

We have had a brilliant first half term in our Duckling class, and the children have all settled in well and have been busy forming new friendships with their peers. It has been so lovely to see the children growing their confidence, sharing their knowledge and to observe them developing so many different skills.

Here are some pictures from our week in class. Mrs Mante and I hope you all have a lovely half term break and look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 30th October to start our exciting new topic ‘Once Upon a Time’.

Autumn 1, Week 5: w/c 9th October 2023

This week we were still very much in Autumn mode! We started our week off by looking at some Woodland animals and exploring how they move together. The children did loads of different animal movements and were able to identify some animals that moved with 2 legs, those that moved with 4 and even showed me what sounds some of the animals made too! We also focused on counting and number formation in Maths this week. The children explored counting conkers, tracing numbers, and counting the leaves on the trees they decorated. We also explored our Autumn treasures table filled with all the treasures the children bought in after their autumn walks over the weekend. We had loads of conkers, acorns, different colour leaves, twigs and even some flowers! We thought about the different colours we might find in autumn, how the leaves may feel on our fingers. We also explored Woodland and non-woodland animal and explored what the children could see in the pictures. We spoke about which one was their favourite, what their features were, what they thought the animals ate and where they sleep. Our Jigsaw lesson this week was all about Our Responsibilities and we shared what their responsibilities are in class and what they were responsible for at home. On Friday, the children loved baking their oat flapjacks with Mrs Mante for the Harvest Festival, to take home with them. Hopefully they will share it with you! Ducklings are still learning how we could use our kind hands in class and how we can share with one another in Duckling Class.

Our Makaton sign this week was ‘drink’, see if your child can show you this sign at home over the weekend.
