Service Pupil Premium
Service Pupil Premium
We receive £340 per service family pupil. The money is used to provide pastoral support to mitigate the impact of mobility and deployment.
We do recognise that not all pupils will require support both pastorally and educationally, however, we strive to use this funding to ensure that the needs of all pupils are identified early.
Schools decide how the money is to be spent on Service children mainly through pastoral support. Unlike the Pupil Premium, Service Pupil Premium is not for attainment; however, mobile Service children may need targeted help in a new school to catch up with their class or to cover gaps in understanding due to missing out on key learning areas.
Is my child eligible for SSP?
- One of their parents is serving in the regular Armed Forces (including a parent who is on full commitment as part of the full-time reserve service)
- they have been registered as a 'Service child' on a school census at any point in the last 6 years
- One of their parents died whilst serving in the Armed Forces and the pupil receives a pension under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme or the War Pensions Scheme
- One of their parents is in the Armed Forces of another nation and is stationed in England.
How do I get SSP for my child?
- Let us know that your child is a Service child before October each year (especially important if you have moved schools). The school submits the numbers to the DfE in an October census return.
- SSP is paid to eligible schools and it is for schools to decide how it is best spent. The school will not receive the funding immediately - it is paid to eligible schools the following April.
